How to Clean & Sterilize Launca Intraoral Scanner Tips

The rise of digital dentistry has brought many innovative tools to the forefront, and one of them is the intraoral scanner. This digital device allows dentists to create precise and efficient digital impressions of a patient's teeth and gums. However, it is essential to keep your intraoral scanner clean and sterilized to avoid cross-contamination. The reusable scan tips are in direct contact with the patient's oral cavity, so rigorous cleaning and disinfection of the scan tips is required to ensure hygiene and safety for patients. In this blog, we will walk you through the process of cleaning and sterilizing Launca intraoral scanner tips properly.

Steps for Autoclave Method
Step 1: Remove the scanner tip and rinse the surface under running water to clean off the smudges, stains or residue. Do not let the water touch the metal connection points inside the scanner tip during the cleaning process.
Step 2: Use a cotton ball dipped in a small amount of 75% ethyl alcohol to wipe the surface and inside of the scanner tip.
Step 3: The wiped scan tip should preferably be dried using a drying device, such as dental three-way syringe. Do not use natural drying methods (to avoid exposure to the air for a long time).
Step 4: Place medical gauze sponges (the same size as the scan window) on the lens position of the dried scan tip to prevent the mirror from being scratched during the disinfection process.
Step 5: Place the scan tip in sterilization pouch, ensure the pouch is sealed air-tight.
Step 6: Sterilize in autoclave. Autoclave parameters: 134℃, the process at least 30 minutes. Reference pressure: 201.7kpa~229.3kpa. (Disinfection time may vary for different brands of sterilizers)

Note:
(1) The number of autoclave times should be controlled within 40-60 times (DL-206P/DL-206). Do not autoclave the entire scanner, only for scan tips.
(2) Before use, wipe the back end of the intraoral camera with Caviwipes for disinfection.
(3) During autoclaving, place medical gauze on the scan window position to prevent the mirrors from being scratched, as shown in the photo.
